Hedging: what it means in exchange trading

Placing an opposite bet to reduce or remove risk on an open position.

A full hedge equalises the result across outcomes. A partial hedge reduces risk while leaving some upside. Greening up is a full hedge in profit.

Hedge an open back or lay so you win the same on every outcome.

A hedged position that shows a profit whatever the result.

Closing a position before the event so the result no longer depends on who wins.
