Betfair prices can only sit on a fixed ladder of 350 values between 1.01 and 1000. The gap between neighbouring prices, the tick, widens as the odds get longer.
| Price range | Tick size | Ticks in range |
|---|---|---|
| 1.01 – 2.00 | 0.01 | 99 |
| 2.00 – 3.00 | 0.02 | 50 |
| 3.00 – 4.00 | 0.05 | 20 |
| 4.00 – 6.00 | 0.1 | 20 |
| 6.00 – 10.0 | 0.2 | 20 |
| 10.0 – 20.0 | 0.5 | 20 |
| 20 – 30 | 1 | 10 |
| 30 – 50 | 2 | 10 |
| 50 – 100 | 5 | 10 |
| 100 – 1000 | 10 | 90 |
Worked example
5.0 + 3 ticks = 5.3, because ticks are 0.1 between 4.0 and 6.0. Going from 2.0 to 3.0 is 50 ticks; going from 10.0 to 20.0 is only 20.
Questions
Why does my order get rejected at 3.02?
3.02 isn't on the ladder: above 3.0 prices move in 0.05 steps, so the nearest valid prices are 3.0 and 3.05. The calculator flags invalid prices and shows the nearest valid one.
